BABICH Nikolay Yevgenyevich

Consul General of the Russian Federation

Nikolay Babich was born on December 22, 1948. In 1971 he graduated from Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO). Has diplomatic rank of Minister Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, 2nd class. Speaks English and Spanish languages.

Started his career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1971. Served official diplomatic tours of duty in Colombia (1972-1975), Peru (1978-1980), and Cuba (1985-1991).

Since 1991 – counselor, section head at the Department of North America of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.

1995-1999 – counselor at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Washington.

1999-2002 – deputy director of the Department of North America of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.

2002-2005 – senior counselor at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Washington.

2005-2008 – deputy director of the Department of Foreign Policy Planning of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.

On June 8, 2008 arrived in the United States to assume duties of Consul General of the Russian Federation in Houston.

Married, has two daughters.
